Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, the director and co-writers of the classic 1985 movie BACK TO THE FUTURE are to reunite to bring a stage version to London in 2015.
I can barely contain my excitement.
The new ‘musical’ will open in the West End in the year of the original movie’s 30th anniversary, and indeed the year when Marty originally travelled to the future for the first time witnessing flying cars, hover-boards and JAWS 19. The show, in the words of Gale will be “true to the spirit of the film without being a slavish remake”.
“We intend to use music from the movie along with brand new songs to make a version of Back to the Future that is fresh, entertaining and takes advantage of all the amazing things that can now be done on stage,” he added.
“We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film.”
I can’t either Bob. Great Scott!
Songwriter Glen Ballard will team with Alan Silvestri, the composter of the original score, to pen the show’s music. Ballard is responsible for composing the music for the recent stage adaptation of the 1990 movie GHOST, which is also amazeballs. He also produced and co-wrote songs like one. British helmer Jamie Lloyd (no relation to Christopher) will direct.
Let us celebrate with this.
