Tom Cruise has been busting his hump up and down Hollywood Boulevard for sometime now in hopes to get things moving on EL PRESIDENTE. The project has been in development since 2010 is yet to assemble its cast. It was originally set to be helmed by director Jay Roach and the studio hoped to get Jack Nicholson on board from the get go. Neither are currently attached to the film, which according to The Hollywood Reporter, now has Doug Liman in the directors chair and who recently completed filming EDGE OF TOMORROW with Cruise.
So with the new director in hand, Cruise paid a visit to Jack Nicholson’s Hollywood home in hopes to convince the 76 year-old star to consider the role. While theres no certainty yet, Nicholson has at least agreed to read the script which was penned by Jesse Armstrong and Daniel J. Goor with a rewrite by Paul Attanasio. There’s still hope yet that the stars of A FEW GOOD MEN may reunite.
EL PRESIDENTE apparently tells the tale of a by-the-book secret service agent who’s given the task of protecting a shameful ex-president. The latter being a sleazy womaniser with a drinking problem who was promoted from vice presidency when the president died. After an assassination attempt is made on the former Commander-In-Chief’s life, the pair end up on the run together and must overcome their differences to save the day.
