Ridley Scott Rumoured To Direct Football Drama

Award-winning director Sir Ridley Scott’s been really busy lately. Not only is he working on the much-anticipated sequel to BLADE RUNNER (please let it be good), a follow-up to PROMETHEUS and Biblical epic EXODUS starring Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton, but he’s rumoured to be planning a feature on American football.

The sport has resulted in high profile cases of brain damage and early dementia for some players. Head injuries and concussions can be common in such a full-contact sport, and these often go unreported. Scott will have a wide range of real life examples to choose from, should he develop the project. The long-term effects of head trauma have plagued players such as John Mackey and Jim McMahon, while  Dave Duerson committed suicide after his struggles with degenerative brain disease.

If made, the feature may have more in common with 2012’s low-key documentary HEAD GAMES, which exposed the risks of the sport, than REMEMBER THE TITANS.

Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
