We’ve yet another (the fifth!) trailer and poster for the long-delayed martial-arts epic 47 RONIN. THE MATRIX superstar Keanu Reeves is back on the wire-work as a “half-breed” named Kai. He’s asked to join forces and unite a band of sword-swinging warriors when their land is taking over by mythical supernatural creatures. Carl Rinsch’s fantasy film was expected last year before Universal requested reshoots, bringing the budget close to $250 million and subsequently forced a change in release dates. Rinsch was also supposedly fired during post-production but the studio have since played that down.
Keanu Reeves makes an explosive return to action-adventure in 47 Ronin. After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors. As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.
47 RONIN comes from a screenplay written by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini. It co-stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Rinko Kikuchi and Ko Shibasaki and hits theatres in the US 25th December and the UK Boxing Day.
