I’ll never understand why STARGATE was never more appreciated. It was one of the films (along with BATMAN FOREVER) that got me into films, and yet it was the TV series, Stargate: SG1, that made the franchise a cultural phenomenon. That TV series ran for 10 years and had a few spin-offs of its own. But for me, it was still the original film that is absolutely awesome and underated.
Luckily, for the likes of me, director Roland Emmerich isn’t giving up on the franchise just yet. Talking to Digital Spy while promoting his latest, WHITE HOUSE DOWN, Emmerich revealed that a potential trilogy is on the cards:
We went to MGM, who has the rights, and proposed to them to do a sequel, but as a reboot… and reboot it as a movie and then do three parts. Pretty soon we’ll have to look for a writer and start.
Sounds pretty darn good to me, but it’s doubtful Kurt Russell and James Spader will be back:
The actors look totally different… it would not work.
Any STARGATE is good STARGATE in my book, and as the TV series proved, the universe has unlimited potential.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
