Wiseman Out Of ‘The Mummy’ Reboot

Not that I was looking forward to it but Len Wiseman has vacated Universal Pictures’ reboot of THE MUMMY franchise. The UNDERWORLD and DIE HARD 4.0 director made such a monumental fuck-up with headache-inducing remake of TOTAL RECALL (despite an awesome cast), I’d struggle to find the will to watch another of his OTT, style above substance efforts. Scheduling conflicts are supposedly the cause of his decision although I struggle to see how anyone would hire him anyway.

Producers Sean Daniels, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are now searching for a new director to bring PROMETHEUS scribe Jon Spaihts modern day-set re-imagining. It promises the be a lot closer in tone to the original horror starring Boris Karloff that Stephen Sommers’ Indiana Jones-inspired remake with Brendan Fraser.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
