A brief teaser trailer for Japanese animation master, Hayao Miyazaki’s latest film THE WIND RISES, is now available to view. From Miyazaki’s own studio, Studio Ghibli, responsible for works such as the classics MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO, GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES, CASTLE IN THE SKY, SPIRITED AWAY, and PRINCESS MONONOKE, THE WIND RISES will tell the biographical tale of Jiro Horikoshi, the famed inventor of the Zero Fighters, planes used by Japan in WWII. The visuals look immaculate, and the music is serene, but some viewers may find Miyazaki’s jump from the fantasy world to a more dramatic approach quite jarring.
THE WIND RISES will be released in Japan on 20th July 2013, and is yet to receive an international release date. However, judging on how long it takes Studio Ghibli films to arrive here (FROM UP ON POPPY HILL is released later this summer in the UK, 2 years after its Japanese release), we might be twiddling our thumbs for some time.
