Disney’s latest animated fairytale FROZEN has just released its first images. The complex plot will see a young woman named Anna (Kristen Bell) set off on a journey to stop her sister, who has covered the world in ice. Along the way she gets caught up in a love triangle and is joined by a series of characters including a comic relief snowman. Judging by the pictures below, the film will follow Disney’s strict formula regarding these princess centered efforts, in terms of both animation and plot. Those backgrounds are certainly looking impressive, and I’m sure the 3D will make the worlds totally immersive.
Co-director Jennifer Lee, has the following to say about the sibling relationship between Anna and her sister:
That’s such an important part of this. Two sisters torn apart by a big family secret. [Anna is] not a good fighter, she doesn’t have good posture, she’s not very elegant, and she’s constantly putting her foot in her mouth. She’s a good person and she’s utterly determined.
It sames like the same old character Disney has been using for awhile, but the villainous sister is certainly new for Disney. I would argue that the best villain/hero relationship in Disney is that of Scar and Mufasa, which added tension and tragedy. We’ll see if FROZEN can explore the conflict in a mature manner.
FROZEN is scheduled to arrive in US cinemas on 27th November 2013, and in UK cinemas on 20th December 2013. It will star the voice talent of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff.
