Just when it seemed as though JURASSIC PARK IV had staved off the franchise’s own extinction, complete with a 2014 release date, a director in the form of Colin Trevorrow and even location scouts searching for Isla Nublar (above), the project was shelved indefinitely by Universal.
Last we heard Derek Connolly was rewriting Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver‘s screenplay. However, what changes were being made, or indeed what was being changed, was anyone’s guess. If JURASSIC PARK actor Sam Neill is to be believed — or perhaps misunderstood — the project was being shaped up to reboot the series.
“I’m told it’s a big reboot, a total re-jig.”
While Neill is undoubtedly in part correct — everything we have heard on the subject of the third sequel suggests it would be a substantial departure from the original trilogy — it seems unlikely that Universal would go ahead with a straight up reboot, not least because producer Frank Marshall denied that fact only last year.
Either way, we will keep you abreast of any future updates.
