Disney may have been making headlines with their acquisitions of Marvel and STAR WARS, but they also have some other properties out there. One of those is the Western version of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, also known as THE LONE RANGER. Disney have launched a brand new TV spot to highlight some of the action sequences, but will this do for Westerns what POTC did for blacksmiths and Aztec gold? Only time will tell. Johnny Depp stars as the Native American known as Tonto who sides with THE LONE RANGER to tackle the badness that our world is so regretfully filled with. I’m still unsure on how to read this film and I think it could be a big hit or a big bust. Not that I wish it to go one way or the other, but like Martial Arts films, I prefer my Westerns serious. Luckily I’ll get fair warning thanks to a much later UK release date.
THE LONE RANGER is released in the US on 3rd July and in the UK on 9th August. It stars Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Helena Bonham Carter, James Badge Dale, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, and Tom Wilkinson.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
