Zach Braff’s Kickstarter Project Reaches $1.4 Million Mark!

Zach Braff

SCRUBS star Zach Braff has launched a Kickstarter project for his new venture WISH I WAS HERE…and it’s already hit the $1.4m million mark.

When asked why he decided to fund the project through donations, Braff said that he was looking for more creative control:

“I always hit roadblocks, whether it was having to cast a certain person or having to retain final cut with the success of GARDEN STATE. With this movie, I’m so passionate about this movie, I was really about to sign on the dotted line with a traditional financing arrangement, and it’s been 10 years; God I want to make a movie more than anything. I’ll do whatever you want, I’ll give away final cut, I’ll put your brother in it, whatever.”

WISH I WAS HERE will be Braff’s second directorial attempt after the 2004 indie hit GARDEN STATE, which he also starred in. I’m a huge fan of his debut and of Zach in general (I’m a long-time SCRUBS fan) so I’m really looking forward to this. When the news was announced yesterday I did see several people on Twitter pooh-pooh the fact he’s gone through Kickstarter to raise the money – but hey, surely we all support an attempt for more creative control?

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
