Few filmmakers divide opinion like Michael Bay. They’re is no doubt his films put butts on seats and he sure knows how to put on a spectacle, whether putting the camera in full view of battling robots and explosive shenanigans or lingering on a lovely ladies anatomy but ultimately, Bay’s just a teenage boys wet dream. Over his career I’ve loved (THE ROCK, THE ISLAND) and loathed (TRANSFORMERS 2 and 3) his output, with an unmistakable style that is now what the ‘blockbuster’ is almost defined as. Still, I’m seriously looking forward passion project, PAIN & GAIN (despite it featuring Ken Jeong).
The film is based on a true story which follows a group of bodybuilders who plotted a campaign of kidnapping, extortion which tragically ended in a murderous conclusion in Florida, during the late 1990s. The details were first told in a series of articles from the Miami New Times. Mark Wahlberg headlines as the criminal ringleader, alongside Dwayne Johnson, Anthony Mackie, Ed Harris, Rob Corddry, Tony Shalhoub, Bar Paly, and Rebel Wilson.
Check out the first clip from the film hitting US cinemas from the 26th April and the 3rd May in the UK.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
