I’m kinda lost with all of the RESIDENT EVIL movies. I pick up one of them in the DVD store and even I can’t remember if I’ve seen or not. They all kind of mould into one… Well, the man responsible for most of those movies is British director Paul WS Anderson, and the news has just broke via First Showing that the planned sixth movie in the franchise will see him step behind the camera once again to take the directing reigns. Anderson has directed three of the existing five films in the zombie franchise, so RES 6 will be his fourth, but he has produced all of them.
Mill Jovovich is apparently also set to return for the new movie, and Mr X visual effects house will handle the masses of visual effects that Anderson will no doubt throw at the screen.
Say what you want about this franchise, but the main thing is they are heavily profitable. Despite RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION’s average domestic performance of just $42m last year, audiences lapped it up worldwide, with the film bagging and healthy $221.8m gross from a $65 million budget. Those figures will have Hollywood digging deep to stump up some green for another sequel.
