Tina Fey Muppets 2

Tina Fey is set to join the human cast of THE MUPPETS 2.

In a move that will please comedy lovers the world over, the brilliant creator and star of 30 Rock will be joining one-man smug factory Ricky Gervais in the sequel to the utterly hilarious MUPPETS movie. Also confirmed to star is Ty Burrell from Modern Family, which is some interesting casting from Disney. Its a bold and wise move to cast principals who are proven comedy commodities instead of getting the likes of Harry Styles and Taylor Swift to lead the project. Though Burrell etc may not entice the kiddywinks, the parents and young adults will be well served. Plus, y’know, kids like Muppets as much as us grown-ups, and we bloody LOVE the Muppets, so everyone is catered for.

In what looks to be an European caper, Fey is lined up to play a Russian prison guard (type-cast again) while Burrell will portray an Interpol officer. We’re not sure what role Gervais will take, though Disney may think twice about his request to be an hilarious disabled person.

THE MUPPETS 2 will be co-written by Nicholas Stoller (who penned the original with Jason Segal) and James Bobin, who also retains directing duties. It’ll be shooting around London this month and I will personally be keeping an eye out for my bespectacled heroine. How I want to go to there.
