After several glimpses and photo-previews of Baz Luhrmann’s THE GREAT GATSBY, the trailer premiered in May, getting film and novel fans very excited for the December release date. As with any film on this kind of scale, there will be many new pieces of promotion over the next few months and today is no exception. Here we have three new images for you, showing off Luhrmann’s eye for decadent mise-en-scene and costumes.
If you don’t know by now, Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Jay Gatsby, the elusive and very wealthy party-thrower who wants to win back his old love Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan). When Daisy’s cousin Nick Carraway (Toby Maguire) comes to stay, Gatsby befriends him, introducing him to his luxurious lifestyle. As secrets are revealed and lives are risked (and taken), Nick starts to see what he’s let himself get into. Joel Edgerton, Amitabh Bachchan, Isla Fisher, Elizabeth Debicki and Jason Clarke all star alonside DiCaprio, Mulligan and Maguire, making this a very solid cast list.
I for one am very excited to see this but unfortunately we have another six months of waiting. However, with the buzz around the film already electric (and will no doubt intensify as the months go on) this could be a big winner at next years award shows. Luhrmann has already impressed everyone with his take on ROMEO + JULIET and MOULIN ROUGE! and THE GREAT GATSBY will be no different.
