THE DARK KNIGHT star Christian Bale has signed on to headline the revenge-themed thriller, OUT OF THE FURNACE. The film will be directed by Scott Cooper, who was able to get an Oscar-winning performance from Jeff Bridges in his writing and directing debut CRAZY HEART.
Bale had actually agreed to star in the film last year, when it was under the previous title of THE LOW DWELLER, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Now with Bale back on board, the project looks to be moving forward fast. The legendary Robert DuVall is also expected to co-star in the film, that will see Bale’s recently released convict attempt a life at going straight. This until, the murder of his brother shatters his world; setting him on a personal mission to find those responsible.
The film is being described as a throw-back to the hard-boiled revenge classics of the 70s, such as John Boorman’s POINT BLANK and Mike Hodges’ GET CARTER. Sounds like another classic in the making.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
