THN confirmed on Wednesday that supernatural-romance BEAUTIFUL CREATURES had cast its star-crossed lovers in the form of Jack O’Connell and Alice Englert (see here). Joining them will be Britain’s very own Emma Thompson, who is in final talks for the dual role of Mrs Lincoln and Serafina, the evil witch that overtakes her soul.
BEAUTIFUL CREATURES is based on the first novel, of a trilogy by Kami Carcia and Margaret Stohl, which sometimes goes under the moniker of ‘The Castor Chronicles’. The plot of which sees a young Ethan Wate fall for newcomer-to-town Lena Duchannese. It soon becomes apparent that dark forces are at work when the couple uncover secrets about one another’s family history, along with the town they inhabit.
The film is due to start shooting in April with Richard LaGravenese taking writing and directing duties. Viola Davis is also expected to appear in the film. Unfortunately having not read any of the three novels, I can’t confirm if they will be any shirtless teens transforming into wolves or pasty-faced vampires looking more unhappy than a banker without a bonus.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
