Crowe And Jackman Set For Les Miserables

As previously reported and rumoured, it has now been confirmed that Russell Crowe (Proof of Life, Gladiator) is set to play Javert in this new adaption of Victor Hugo’s classic LES MISERABLES. Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) fans will also be excited to hear that he is taking on the role of Jean Valjean in this musical epic directed by Academy Award winning Tom Hooper of THE KING’S SPEECH fame.

We think it’s safe to assume there are plans afoot to take on the Oscars in 2013 and this is also an extremely brave project to commit to. LES MISERABLES is the longest running musical in the world since it’s opening in London in 1985 and they will need to make this as close to perfect or face the fallout of the critics and fans alike.

Crowe does have the background in singing with 30 Odd Foot of Grunts but will he be able to take on this mighty role? I guess we’ll have to wait to find out but Universal will be hoping this doesn’t vanish into the ether like the 1998 version that starred Liam Neeson and Uma Thurman, remember it? No, we don’t either but we’re hoping Hooper and company will be able to bring something unique to the screen.
