MONSTERS helmer Gareth Edwards has signed on the dotted line to direct the brand new GODZILLA movie for Legendary Pictures, according to an exclusive over at The Hollywood Reporter.
The character has appeared in dozens of films, the last being the 1998 Roland Emmerich epic.
According to the trade Warner Bros. will co-produce, co-finance and distribute the film.
Edwards made MONSTERS for around £500,000, and has received praise from both sides of the Atlantic, and his next film will be a sci-fi epic with Timur Bekmambetov.
David Callaham (THE EXPENDABLES) has written a draft of GODZILLA for the studio, but they are set to attach a scribe to rewrite the screenplay soon.
