Awards season officially began this week as the LA. Film Critics, New York Film Critics Online (NYFCO), and Boston Film Critics, all announced their top picks for 2010. And THE SOCIAL NETWORK came out ahead of the rest, picking up the Best Picture award from each organisation. David Fincher was also named the top director by all three groups, and screenplay writer Aaron Sorkin certainly wasn’t forgotten either.
However, the movie about Facebook didn’t dominate over all, Natalie Portman was crowned Best Actress by NYFCO and Boston for her performance in the Darren Aronofsky-directed movie BLACK SWAN (read our review here), and Christian Bale was given Best Supporting Actor credit for his role in David O. Russell’s THE FIGHTER.
When it came to Best Actor though, the three groups were at war. NYFCO awarded the accolade to James Franco for Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours, L.A. went for Colin Firth in THE KING’S SPEECH (see our review here), and Boston announced Jesse Eisenberg as top acting dog for THE SOCIAL NETWORK. One thing they could agree on though was that TOY STORY 3 deserved the honour of being Best Animated Feature.
