It is rare to see a trailer that depicts the feel of a film, rather than provide a glossed up advertisement. Too often we are met with 2 minute conglomerations that give away its best moments. This teaser trailer for Doug Aarniokoski’s THE DAY leaves whistles and bells to the wayside. Instead, he has provided abstract footage of a post apocalyptic world to the sound of lyric-less music. All that is revealed is the scorched landscape, the actors and an implied feeling of dread.
The wide shots, soft focus and saturated tones of the teaser trailer mirror that of recent film THE ROAD. Recognisable faces are introduced to the footage gradually, like that guy who was fumbling with Megan Fox in that Eminem video or the one with the ice powers in X-Men.
I am amazed by the subtlety of the trailer and how much they manage to portray. The flash of blood dripping from a claw hook, the close ups of bare thorn branches. It is put to the music of all of a sudden I miss everyone by Texan post-rockers Explosions in the Sky. The song paces the footage well using the crashing guitar sound to accompany the more action-based scenes. It is well worth a look:
