Daniel Day-Lewis to play Abe Lincoln in Spielberg Biopic

When Liam Neeson dropped out of the title role back in August, the film’s future sank into the horrible depths of doubt and production was put on hold as the search for another actor rolled on. Finally though, it seems that Daniel Day-Lewis has decided to step up to the challenge of playing the iconic president. Steven Spielberg‘s biopic LINCOLN, is based on the book Team of Rivals by Pulitzer Prize winner, Doris Kearns. Tony Kushner has written the screenplay, which Dreamworks confirmed in a release would be about “the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition [of slavery] and the end of the Civil War”. Anyone smell another Oscar in the works for two-time winner Lewis?

Film is set to begin in Autumn 2011, with a release date in late 2012.
