Zack Snyder WILL direct Superman: Man Of Steel

It has been confirmed through The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog that WATCHMEN and 300 helmer Zack Snyder will be directing the Christopher Nolan led Superman reboot for Warner Brothers. Names that have been attached to the project over the past few weeks have been the likes of Darren Aronofsky, Tony Scott, Ben Affleck and even Robert Zemeckis, but it will Snyder who will tackle the flick, which will be produced by Nolan. Emma Thomas, along with Charles Roven, and Deborah Snyder also produce.

No news as to who will play the man in the red cape, but Brandon Routh could be called back after playing Superman in the 2006 film SUPERMAN RETURNS, a flick that disappointed at the box-office. The word over at the blog is that General Zod will be the main villain in the new flick, which we’re hearing will be called SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL. Zod was originally played by Terrence Stamp in both SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN II.

Here’s what Snyder had to say.

“I’ve been a big fan of the character for a long time, he’s definitely the king of all superheroes, he’s the one. It’s early yet, but I can tell you that what David [Goyer] and Chris [Nolan] have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I’ve always felt he was kind of awesome. I’ll finish ‘Sucker Punch’ and get right at it.”

Warner Brothers are aiming for a late 2012 release for the film.

Snyder has another project to finish up on before he can tackle anything though, and that’s SUCKER PUNCH, which hits cinemas on March 25, 2011.
