Updated: Martin Freeman Turns Down Bilbo Baggins Part In The Hobbit?

Updated: According to sources at EW, producers may be looking to work around Martin Freeman‘s schedule for Sherlock and fit shooting The Hobbit around it. No official word from either MGM or Warner Brothers/ New Line as yet, but we’ll keep you posted.

Check out the report here.

British actor Martin Freeman, who appeared in The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy and Love Actually as well as the current BBC TV hit Sherlock, has turned down the chance to star in The Hobbit as Bilbo Baggins, according to reports.

The Sun report that Freeman turned down the part as he has committed to twenty weeks filming Sherlock in the UK.

A source told the red top newspaper:

“It was one of the most difficult decisions of his career. MGM, who are making the film, only got a formal offer over in the last couple of weeks.

“It was too late for Martin because he had already signed up for another series of Sherlock. It was agonising but he had no other choice.”

You can read more at the end of the link above. Freeman and his reps are yet to confirm or deny the story.
