Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated $1 million to help the earthquake victims on the Caribbean island of Haiti.
The Hollywood couple – who are known for their generosity to those in aid – were determined to be of assistance to the country as it recovers from the natural disaster, which hit on Tuesday (12.01.10).
They said in a statement: “We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter.”
Singer Usher also offered his help and encouraged others to do the same.
He said: “I am devastated by the news in Haiti and am calling for youth worldwide to support and offer assistance to the millions of people in that area that are in dire need.”
The ‘You Make Me Wanna’ singer also said he was working with his charity Usher’s New Look “to figure out the most effective means of help”.
He added: “I also know that young men and women have asked the same question – ‘How can I help?’.
“With Haiti in a state of emergency right now, young people do have the power to save lives.”
