Brittany Murphy’s grieving husband has considered suicide, according to his mother.

British screenwriter Simon Monjack – who married the late ‘Clueless’ actress in 2007 following a whirlwind romance – is so “distraught” over the late 32-year-old actress’ passing on December 20 he has contemplated taking his own life.

His mother Linda told People magazine: “Simon is exactly as you would expect someone to be who has just lost the woman he loved. Some days he wants to kill himself, and other days he seems to be coping better. He is distraught. I speak to him everyday, and he is often in tears.”

Brittany died last month at their Los Angeles home after suffering cardiac arrest and was found collapsed in the shower by her mother Sharon.

Since her death, Sharon – who shared a home with the couple and is still living with Simon – has clung to her devastated son-in-law for support.

Linda – a hypnotherapist – explained: “He’s very strong, and he’s got Sharon. They’re very close, and they’re keeping each other going.

“Sharon witnessed Simon and Brittany’s love. She was so happy her daughter had found someone.

“They truly loved each other. I don’t think they ever spent more than a few days apart. They were going to start a family this year.”

The pair are currently awaiting the results of the autopsy – which are due to be released later this month when toxicology tests are completed – and hope it will finally bring them “closure” to the situation.

Linda added: “Simon’s life has been shattered. He needs closure to be able to get on with it.”

Until then, the 39-year-old widower is trying to stay strong for the sake of Brittany’s mother.

He explained: “I don’t know if she’ll ever recover. I hope she stays. I can’t imagine my life without Sharon.”
