Nightwatch (1998) Movie Review - Reviewed by: Adam Mast, Zboneman.com

The real star of this suspense thriller is the morgue in which the film is set. Ewan Mcgregor plays a college student who takes a job as night watchmen at the morgue to get himself out of debt. It's not long before murders start taking place, and Mcgregor finds himself implicated. Nick Nolte is hilarious as the officer on McGregor's case. The killer's identity isn't much of a surprise, but everything else in this creepy, atmospheric thriller is pretty enjoyable.

Some of the best moments in Night Watch deal with McGregor being alone in the morgue. The morgue takes on a life of it's own bringing to mind the movie studio in 1995's underrated Mute Witness. Director Ole Bornedal does a good job showing us the bizarre human behavior that takes place when one is alone in the dark. Josh Brolin gives an outstanding, charismatic performance as McGregor's best friend. Night Watch isn't the best thriller ever made, but it's certainly better than the Tobe Hooper classic, The Mangler.
