While serving as wonderful metaphor for addictions of all kinds, this low budget independent is the only vampire movie I've ever seen that I believed. Writer, director, Larry Fessendon plays a bartender, recovering from a recent breakup who becomes enamored with a woman he meets at a friends halloween party--a strangely attractive boyish-looking woman of the blood-sucking persuasion. Set in New York, the film is a haunting study of a man being turned inside out by obsession. Superb performances by a small cast of actors you've likely never seen before is what makes it all seem so believable. Though the standard neck-biting business is played way down, the film offers some of the most carnally visceral images I've ever seen. When it was over I rewound it and watched it again.

Grade: A-
