It
seems that There's Something About Mary has blown the door wide open for the crude
comedy. Last year saw the release of the teenage sex comedy American Pie and now,
get ready for Road Trip--a wacky wannabe that is mostly a bad trip.
A
group of college students drive cross country to retrieve a video tape that could
spell certain emotional doom for a twenty something who's cheated on his girlfriend.
MTV's Tom Greene has been getting most of the press for this film even though
he isn't actually part of the road trip. He stays back at the campus to feed one
of his buddy's pet snakes--which results in one of the film's worst sight gags.
Road
Trip offers a few laughs but not nearly enough for a full length movie. It also
borrows from some of the 80's true treasures. Ferris Bueller, Bachelor Party,
and Porky's just to name a few. That in itself is fine, but this film isn't nearly
as funny as the ones it rips off.
Although
I liked Road Trip more than Can't Hardly Wait and She's All That, it can't touch
an enlightening and witty film like Election with a ten foot pole. It's just another
unfunny teen comedy that I'll try to forget.
