Superstar (1999) Movie Review

Yes, it's time for another lame big- screen version of a Saturday Night Live skit. This time, it's Mary Catherine Gallagher--the annoying Catholic school girl who can't seem to fit in with the rest of the students.

In Superstar, Mary attempts to defeat the odds by winning a talent contest and the heart of the most popular guy in school (played by funny SNL comedian Will Ferrell).

I've always said that there's nothing worse than a comedy that isn't funny . . . and this film isn't funny. Superstar is a tedious, one joke movie that's more obnoxious than anything else. Molly Shannon is a comedian of range and she proves it in her physical shtick, but watching this character in a full length movie didn't work at all.

Dare I say it, this was a worse experience than last year's dreadful A Night At The Roxbury. God, please let there not be a Craig and Ariana cheerleader movie!
