John
Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton play air traffic controllers in this new film from
Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Donnie Brasco).
Pushing
Tin starts off as Newell introduces us to an odd assortment of eccentric characters
who spend most of their frenetic work day spouting intense rapid-fire dialogue.
The film starts off at a comically blistering pace, but becomes boring when the
plot begins to concentrate on the characters personal lives, instead of their
turbulent worklife. Also, the film focuses too much on Cusack's character and
doesn't give much insight into Thornton's, who is actually a much more interesting
and compelling character.
Still,
Pushing Tin does have some great dialogue and fantastic supporting characters;
including, Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth), and Jake Weber (Meet Joe
Black). Newell can be quite effective as a director. Unfortunately, with this
film he has a great idea, but it takes a wrong turn.
