Paul King, the British director who brough the fantastic Paddington movie to the screen will return to helm and write its sequel, so reports Deadline. The interesting news here however is that Bill actor/ writer Simon Barnaby will collaborate with King on the screenplay for Paddington 2. The pair worked alongside one another on King’s debut feature The Bunny and the Bull, which Farnaby starred in. Farnaby also appeared in the first movie as ‘Barry’.
Paddington grossed a whopping $250 million plus around the world, so it’s no surprise that StudioCanal want a follow-up. The fact that King is on board is brilliant news too, as the film was not only commercially successful, it also went down really well with critics too. Harry Potter producer David Heyman will also return.
Paddington is based on the much-loved books of Michael Bond, and while the studio is keen to get moving on the new movie, the trade blog adds that they won’t be pushing King and Farnaby to get the script pumped out too quickly.
