Whisperings of the pair teaming up for what insiders are calling “No Country For Old Men on steroids” have been floating around for some time, but Deadline have recently confirmed Fassbender having committed to the project.  Further plot details are scarce, however, the story is set to follow an esteemed lawyer’s fall from grace after he naively believes he can involve himself in the drug business and come away unscathed.

Not only is Fassbender signed to THE COUNSELOR but he’s also set to join Steve McQueen for TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE, a period tale of a young man that is sold into slavery in the mid 1800s – Is there anything he’s not involved with?

THE COUNSELOR is set to start production 1^st May and looks scheduled for release in 2013.

Synopsis: Warrior Mathayus is dispatched by King Horus to protect ally King Ramusan from imminent attack. In return for his services, he is promised Ramusan’s daughter Silda in marriage. But to collect his reward, he will have to rescue the princess from the scheming Talus.

Having never seen the first two films in THE SCORPION KING trilogy, I may not have been the most qualified to review THE SCORPION KING 3: BATTLE FOR REDEMPTION. However, after voluntarily sitting through such straight-to-DVD ‘classics’ as INVISIBLE MOM and SPACE BUDDIES I certainly know crap when I see it, and THE SCORPION KING 3 has it by the bucket load.

Originally portrayed by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, then re-cast and played by Michael Copon in the 2008 prequel, warrior Mathayus is now Samatha’s neighbour in one episode of SEX AND THE-CITY star Victor Webster. Playing a human male with a good body and decent face, Webster is convincing. He is less so as an Ancient Egyptian warrior but you get what you pay for.

An unexplained Morgan Freeman-esque narrator tells us that Mathayus’s kingdom and Queen have been destroyed by a plague — or some sort of evil, it’s not really clear — and the Scorpion King is now a mercenary for hire, wallowing in regret. His new outlook seems to be, if he can’t be happy he may as well have mad cash.

Egypt has since been split into three kingdoms, ruled by Horus, Talus and Ramusan. Challenged to protect the Book of the Dead the evil King Talus — played by the King of Wigs, Billy Zane — Mathayus teams up with a hairy, overweight, comic-relief archetype named Olaf. The pair discover Talus has kidnapped Ramusan’s beautiful daughter and set out to rescue her and stop Talus from raising the dead. There’s also a magic medallion which we know is magic because it glows. Got to love that.

Olaf — played by Bostin Christopher — provides some of the films wittiest dialogue, such as ‘Your hat looks stupid!’. (A notable mentions goes to the anachronistic ‘I like mine medium rare’ when setting fire to a bunch of people.) Olaf also likes to belch. Seriously, have a shot each time he belches. More well-known actors take supporting roles in THE SCORPION KING 3, namely TITANIC’s Billy Zane and HELLBOY’s Ron Perlman.

Perlman, most recently seen in the thrilling DRIVE, brings little to the screen and clearly turned up on set to collect a cheque. Though he does manage to out-wig Billy Zane which is no mean feat. Zane, however, seems to relish his role as the evil King and gets increasingly camper and more shirtless as the film goes on. One brilliant scene sees Talus rip a man’s ear clean off his head with ease, though this may be because the ear already comes off in his hand before he can pull. Yeah, the special effects aren’t great but it makes things much more fun.

THE SCORPION KING 3 is unsurprisingly low-budget but the film makes the most of what it has. Namely elephants, which are in the background of almost every fight scene. Seriously, have a shot each time you see an elephant. I think it’s just the same one over and over.

The battle scenes use plenty of slow-motion in lieu of exciting camera effects, but they get the job done. If you‘re a fan of people getting shot with arrows and set on fire there‘s a lot for you here, and the arrival of ninjas at the half-way point also provide some genuinely thrilling action sequences (and questionable historical accuracy). Later, when Talus inevitably raises dead warriors to do his bidding, THE SCORPION KING 3 manages to find its footing. The story moves away from the Mathayus/Olaf belching bromance and generic sword-on-sword fighting to some supernatural/ninja battling goodness. Plus there’s a female ghost warrior looks like a trashy porn star which is pretty great. Yes, THE SCORPION KING 3: BATTLE FOR REDEMPTION is rubbish, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously. It may not be a great DVD to watch alone, or more than once, but it’d make decent drunk viewing at 3am with friends. There’s just about enough here for fans of THE MUMMY and SCORPION KING franchises, and the film manages to serve up a couple of decent twists along the way.

Extras: Deleted/Extended Scenes, Deleted Shots Montage, Gag Reel, Swords and Scorpions: Making Of, Preparing For Battle

Ventimiglia, who is most well-known for his role as Peter Petrelli in NBC drama HEROES (2006-10) will play Ned Stax, a young lawyer working as a ‘fixer’ for the mob. Which sounds completely the opposite of his good-guy-saving-the-world routine in HEROES – so hopefully we’ll get to see some more of the capable actor’s range.

The 1940s/50s set drama, which is based on John Buntin’s book ‘L.A. Noir: The Struggle For The Soul Of America’s Most Seductive City’ (and not the videogame ‘L.A. Noire’, though both share the same time period and setting), already has William Parker and Mickey Cohen lined up to star as a police chief and mob boss respectively.

Ventimiglia’s character Stax is said to have served as a marine during World War II, alongside one Joe Teague – played by one of the cast members from THE WALKING DEAD. Teague is set to be the main protagonist of L.A. NOIR, as a police officer who looks into corruption in the Los Angeles Police Department and any ties to criminals. The two marines have gone down seemingly opposing paths, so it’ll be interesting to see what conflict arises from their shared background.

For obvious reasons, the confirmation of the actor who’ll play Teague could easily hint at their departure from THE WALKING DEAD, so look away now if you’re a fan of both that show and surprises.

Joe Teague, Deadline reports, will be played by none other than Jon Bernthal (who plays Shane Walsh in THE WALKING DEAD; arguably one of the show’s main antagonists). Of course, there’s no guarantee that Bernthal won’t be able to star in both shows at the same time, and as he is such a main character it would be quite a daring move for Darabont to kill him off.

But then again, if Darabont thinks Bernthal can serve him better in L.A. NOIR, then who’s to say?

Returning for his third outing as the iconic, James Bond 007, is Daniel Craig who will this time see his loyalty to his boss M (Judi Dench),tested to the limit. This leads to him uncovering secrets and a need to track those responsible for an impending terrorist attack on the whole of MI6. Craig and Dench will be joined by a brilliant cast that includes Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory and Ola Rapace.

I’ve had my fill of Del and Rodney Trotter’s misadventures and I’d be happy if they never made another episode. Every so often, if I’m so inclined and stumble across one, I’ll pop an old episode on the box, but I’ll never ever make the effort to hunt it down.

I know that if I were to argue that ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES isn’t that good a TV show that I’d face an overwhelming amount of backlash, so I won’t even bother. I think it’s on OK show that has some memorable and funny moments, which I guess you could argue occasionally encapsulate the essence of ‘British humour’. It has long since ran its course and should remain as a relic easily accessible from any home in Britain. So why on earth have the U.S decided to remake it?

As of yet there’s no conrete information and so the only thing we can do is speculate. Senior US TV executives have allegedly commissioned a pilot and apparently Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, writers on such shows as HAPPY ENDINGS and SCRUBS, are currently scribbling away at the new pilot. It comes as no surprise that ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES is getting a US remake, but it just seems a little redundant.

US remakes such as THE OFFICE have surprised us with their outstanding quality but in this instance I think we can expect more dross similar to the likes of US SKINS and SHAMELESS. Shows that both of which, when I caught snippets, appeared to consist almost entirely of musically driven look-at-the-taboo-thing-I’m-doing action scenes. This isn’t in the spirit of ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES though and to be fair was for SKINS and SHAMELESS, so who knows the U.S remake might not be terrible, but probably will be.

Just to add two more to that breathless bunch of talented individuals; the first being Jennifer Ehle, whose most recent output has included THE KING’S SPEECH, THE IDES OF MARCH and CONTAGION. Secondly is Nash Edgerton, who will be joining his brother Joel on the film. Nash Edgerton is known more for his stunt work in the likes of THE MATRIX trilogy and the STAR WARS prequels.  He collaborated with brother Joel on his full-length directorial debut, THE SQUARE, a brilliant and clever head-twisting thriller made in 2008 that is unfortunately yet-to-be released in the UK.
