The third season of LAS VEGAS arrives on DVD. This season aired in the US from October 2005 to 12th May 2006. I'm reviewing the series just weeks before the fourth is due to air in the US from October 20th. Here's where we're up to.

James Caan's Ed Deline is president of operations at the newly rebuilt Montecito Hotel and Casino in sin city. Danny McCoy (Josh Duhamel) is the casino's head of security, and Deline's right hand man. The two, along with their surveillance team keep their eyes on the scammers, cheaters, and casino whales that enter the casino each and every day, and jump in a 'sort them out' when they have to.

The third season sees a new owner of the Montecito, the delicious Monica Mancuso, played by the lovely Lara Flynn Boyle, take over, re-assemlbling the old crew after the reopening, including Ed and Danny, who has taken over his recently deceased father's construction business after the old casino closed. All eventually come back to the Montecito security team, and things are back to normal. Or s it. The team have to not only cope with the dozens of incidents happening in the casino every day, but also the freakish demands of their new boss ho push them to their limit.

Also along for the ride this season are regulars are Molly Sims (who plays Delinda Deline), Vanessa Marcil who plays organizer Sam Marquez and James Lesure as the funny as hell Mike Cannon. Guest appearances include porn star Ron Jeremy, poker ace Howard Lederer, pop stars The Pussycat Dolls and Rhianna. Also popping up for an extended role is former Superman Dean Cain as Sam's husband, and billionaire Casey Manning.

LAS VEGAS is a show that takes a lighthearted look at sin city and it's sometimes outrageous goings on. Every episode is a stand-alone episode, although a running plot carries all the way through the series. It's not one of those series that has you gripped, waiting for the next episode to air, but it's one of those that you can easily slip in and watch every now and again. As with the place itself, you're assured of a decent, entertaining visit. You can't lose with LAS VEGAS as James Caan has never been better, and there's more lovely ladies on screen at any one time than anything I've seen before (well, anything that carries a rating that is). And for the ladies you have Johnny Knoxville lookalike Josh Duhamel. What more cool you want. It's cool, it's sexy, it's Las Vegas baby!

Oh, and if you're interested in jumping right on in with series three you can, as there's not real kickback plotwise to the two former series.

  • Featurette: "In With The New"
A two and a half minute look at the re-building of the interior, sound stage set Montecito casino floor. Interesting to see how they turned and empty sound stage into a casino. But we don't really get to see the finished result. Which seems a little pointless to me.
  • Gag Reel
Gag reels are either hit, or miss for me. This is a seven minute twenty second long hit! This is mainly due to the boobie parade around four minutes in. Bare breasts - and that's it. Totally gratuitous. But it's great. You also get Jimmy Caan poking fun at THE GODFATHER, and a superb little BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN spoof trailer featuring Danny and Mike. It's a great little montage, and an nice little extra.

I'd recommend LAS VEGAS to all in search of lighthearted, funny and entertaining TV. It's not demanding on the brain, and one of those shows that you can easily sit down and watch after a demanding day at the office. The release is not heavy on extras, but TV show releases rarely are. The gag reel is a must watch though, and is in itself something that sums up the whole idea of the show. Fun.

Grade: B-
