NBC Announces Mid-Season
Posted in: Television
NBC's hit comedy "The Office" will get the coveted post-Super Bowl spot next year, while the new drama "Kings" will take over for "ER" on Thursday nights after the long-running medical drama airs its series finale.

The post-Bowl position is considered the most valuable piece of programming real estate on television, exposing a series to tens of millions of viewers. NBC will air a special one-hour episode of its Emmy-winning comedy after the game concludes Feb. 1.

" 'The Office' is a perfect fit for after the Super Bowl," NBC scheduling chief Mitch Metcalf said. "It's going to be a hilariously funny hour, and I think people will be in the mood to laugh after the big game."

With NBC's ratings severely depressed this fall, the Super Bowl telecast presents a valuable opportunity to bring viewers back to the network. NBC had the choice of several options for the post-Bowl spot, including launching "Kings," relaunching the new volume of "Heroes" or premiering the new edition of "Celebrity Apprentice."

"You just don't want something that's too heavy, and some of the best performances after the Super Bowl have been comedies," Metcalf said. "This could bring a whole new audience to the show."

The decision was part of a flurry of NBC scheduling announcements made Wednesday, including an early season-finale date for "Knight Rider." The action-drama will conclude Feb. 25, with the show halting production after 17 episodes. The network has said it plans to overhaul the show, with format changes still to air in the coming weeks, but the episode cutback suggests there is little expectation that a revamp will reverse the Wednesday night drama's ratings decline.

Chapman Pitbulling Agent
Posted in: Television
Duane "Dog" Chapman and wife Beth have escalated their war against their former talent agent, claiming Brois Krutonog and his company have deceived them yet again.

The Chapmans are  fighting over fees Boris Krutonog and his company, Pivot Point Entertainment, allegedly began collecting in connection with an A&E deal. The Chapmans say Krutonog secretly negotiated a producer's fee with A&E, which is based on a percentage of their earnings from the network. The Chapmans claim the fee is really nothing more than a talent agent's fee, which Krutonog can't collect because he is not a licensed agent.

Now the Chapmans claim Krutonog is at it again, secretly filing a claim with the New York Labor Commissioner to resolve the matter, even though the case is already being heard by the California Labor Commissioner (New York is more likely to cut Krutonog a break).

The Chapmans now want the judge to throw out the New York case.

Eddie Izzard says they're making a 'Riches' movie
Posted in: Movie News, Television
Eddie Izzard has revealed that a film version of the TV show THE RICHES is in the works. The Brit comedian revealed to the BBC that a movie of the now canceled TV show is on the way.

"We've had the meeting and the writers are going to go off and slam out a story," Izzard told the BBC.

"We're going to raise money like Barack Obama through the internet, and we're going to shoot it guerilla-style."

"Everything's getting tight, money's getting tight and there's the credit crunch - so it's the time to go out and be inventive." He added.

"We'll shoot it guerilla-style," he continued, "using gorillas to actually shoot it. We're going to give them cameras...

"No, we're going to just get in there and maybe not have permission to do things, but just film it.

"People will be going, 'who are they? Who are they?'"

BBC to pay entertainers less in the future - Thompson
Posted in: Television
BBC director general Mark Thompson has said that the corporation may have to pay entertainers less in the future. The news comes after £6m a year man Jonathan Ross was suspended for 12 weeks after, along with presenter Russell Brand, leaving obscene messages on actor Andrew Sachs's mobile.

"I think we are heading towards a period where it is probably the case that we will be able to secure the best entertainment talent for less than we have been able to do in the last few years," Thompson told BBC One's Andrew Marr programme.

He also confirmed that Ross would return to screens after the 12 weeks were up.

Thompson himself has also come under scrutiny over the weekend after it was revealed that he himself pockets over £800,000 a year (four times the wage of British Prime Minster Gordon Brown), along with 49 other 'fat cats' at the BBC pocket a combined annual wage of £14 million.

Thompson said: "Of course compared to many people's average pay they seem very substantial, but the public also want the controller of BBC1 to be the best possible person for that job."
