The Blu-Ray Review: Easy Rider

easyrider-bd.jpgWhile I definitely acknowledge that Easy Rider is a classic film, that doesn't mean I think it's very good. Confusing? Perhaps, but it doesn't have to be.

To me, a "classic" is anything that stands the test of time and remains enjoyable after many years or that made a significant impact upon the genre. I'd argue that Rider doesn't qualify in the former category but that it certainly meets the latter criteria.

The Blu-Ray Review: Land of the Lost

landofthelostbd.jpgIf you'll pardon the pun, Will Ferrell's movie career has become a decidedly hit or miss proposition. He still churns out successes like 2008's Step Brothers, but he also stars in duds like that same year's Semi-Pro.

Plop 2009's Land of the Lost in the "bomb" category. Given its huge budget and summer blockbuster expectations, Lost definitely disappointed. $49 million isn't total disaster territory, but it's far below the levels achieved by the average summer hit.

The Blu-Ray Review: Orphan

theorphan.jpgColin Jacobson reviews Orphan on BD.

While not as prolific a horror subject as zombies or vampires, creepy kids have been a genre standby for decades. We get a new entry in that field via 2009's Orphan.

When her pregnancy results in miscarriage, Kate Coleman (Vera Farmiga) suffers from nightmares and various psychological concerns. Though somewhat reticent, she and husband John (Peter Sarsgaard) decide to adopt a child to add to their existing brood of Maxine (Aryana Engineer) and Daniel (Jimmy Bennett).

terminator_salvation_dvd_2ds.jpgSony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced that they will release Terminator Salvation on DVD and Blu-Ray in the UK from November 23rd. We have all of the info after the jump.

The Blu-Ray Review: Drag Me To Hell

Here it is... Colin J's review of Sam Raimi's DRAG ME TO HELL on Blu-Ray!

dragmetohellblurayart.jpgAs a break between Spider-Man movies, director Sam Raimi returned to his roots in over-the-top horror with 2009's Drag Me to Hell. In this throwback to Raimi's Evil Dead days, we start with a prologue set in 1969. A Mexican boy (Shiloh Selassie) steals a necklace from a gypsy woman. Bad move - she puts a curse on him and he ends up sucked into hell.
The film has been described as action-packed, high-octane and indeed a lot of fun. It has also been, in places, described as crap, but GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA is coming to US DVD and Blu-Ray in November all the same, and we have the details...

Check out the box art for the release [via our fancy widget], complete with Harry Knowles quote!

hannibalbluraycollection.jpgColin J reviews the very first Lecter movie on Blu-Ray.

Though it didn't perform particularly well in 1986, Manhunter earned greater prominence after the success of 1991's Silence of the Lambs. The two projects share the same writer - Thomas Harris - and a few characters. Most prominent among these is the infamous Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter, the role made immensely famous by Anthony Hopkins in Lambs.
pe-bd.jpgOne of my favourite films of this year is the Johnny Depp/ Christian Bale starrer PUBLIC ENEMIES, which was released in the summer. I had the excellent opportunity to sit in the same room as both Johnny Depp and director Michael Mann earlier on this year after watching the film for the first time myself. It really is one of the best of the year.
t4bd.jpgSome more information on the upcoming TERMINATOR SALVATION DVD/ Blu-Ray release, which is set to hit US stores on 1st December. We have a full spec list and the new artwork for the release.

DVD cost is set at $28.98 SRP and the Blu-ray Disc at $35.99 SRP.
bruno-blu-ray.jpgThat's right, the summer's best comedy flick (aside from THE HANGOVER) BRUNO is coming to British Blu-Ray and DVD from November 9th. Sacha Baron Cohen stars as his Austrian alter-ego in a flick that doesn;t hold back. The BBFC have reportedly passed over an hour of deleted and alternative scenes along with an interview with Lloyd Robinson (5m 29s) and an enhanced branching video commentary for both DVD and Blu-ray. More info soon.
