We hear that Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand are up for a role in the next Harry Potter movie. The band, which won this years coveted Mercury Music Prize pleaded with film bosses to allow them to appear in the film, titled Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Lead singer Alex Kapranos revealed to The Sun newspaper that the band will feature in the film where they play a gig at the Hogwarts Yule Ball.

He said: "There's a section where there's a band of ugly sisters playing and I think some members of Franz Ferdinand will be those sisters.

"There's an innocence about the films. I like how there's good and evil. That's a clarity which is quite refreshing."

Ex-Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown famousley appeared in the last Potter film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
