J.J. Abram's STAR TREK movie has been pushed back to May 2009 from its original release date, which was set to be Christmas Day 2008. The decision is down to the studio, Paramount Pictures, who decided that the film gross potential is greater as a summer tentpole.
The studio also announced that it was pushing back Ben Stiller's comedy TROPIC THUNDER from July 11 to August 15. The likely reason is the slew of comedies set for release from May to August.
Paramount also said that it already had a release date set for their Martin Scorsese directed, Leonardo DiCaprio starring drama SHUTTER ISLAND. That movie will debut on October 2nd, 2009.
