Robocop to return to the screen?

Hollywood studio MGM has revealed through a press release that they may be set to resurrect one of their most popular franchises, ROBOCOP. In a release announcing the promotion of Mary Parent from Vice Chairman of Worldwide Production to Chairperson, Worldwide Motion Picture Group, MGM said the following about their upcoming slate of projects:

With the appointment of Parent, MGM will enter its new phase of evolution by focusing on its major movie franchises highlighted by James Bond and Pink Panther sequels, The Hobbit, The Thomas Crown Affair 2, The Outer Limits, RoboCop, Death Wish and Fame, among others.

The ROBOCOP franchise spawned three movies, a live-action TV series and two animated TV series. Peter Weller originally played the robotic cop in the first movie, which was directed by Dutch helmer Paul Verhoeven.
