The director of PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, David Gordon Green is being lined up to helm FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND, which is based on the Dark Horse graphic novel written by Steve
Niles.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be based on Niles' six-part 2004 series about the
horrible secret of a rural Middle American town, which involves Trevor
Owen's attempts to protect his "monster" of a 6-year-old younger
brother and Gristlewood Valley's other "freaks" from their parents'
worst instincts.
Niles is also responsible for writing the vampire comic book 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, which was also recently adapted into a feature.
