Nickelodeon to 'Spank' Shakespeare

As Variety put it this morning, Shakespeare is heading back to the big-screen in a new production from the makers of THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES.

The superbly named SPANKING SHAKESPEARE is based on the book by eighth-grade teacher Jake Wizner, and centers centers on Shakespeare Shapiro, who chronicles every mortifying detail of his quest to get into college and find a girlfriend in his memoir -- a writing project that every high school senior must complete.

So really, nothing to do with Shakespeare at all then.

The film will be released by Paramount through their Nickelodeon Films banner.
