With me opting to purchase a brand spanking new HD-DVD player over the Christmas period, and thus shunning Blu-Ray, I was a little miffed at the following news which broke this morning.

Toshiba are to officially announce that they will cease production of HD-DVD players, and thus withdraw themselves from the HD market, pretty much confirming that the format is dead.

Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida is expected to make the announcement during a press conference at 5.00pm Tokyo time on Tuesday (February 19th).
