Veteran film director Robert Altman has died at a Los Angeles hospital. He was
81.
Altman is responsible for a number of classic movies, and during
his long career he mustered no less than five Academy Award nominations. He was
awarded a lifetime acheivement Oscar earlier this year.
Altman directed
films like MASH, NASHVILLE, THE PLAYER, GOSFORD PARK, SHORT CUTS and his last
directorial project A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION. He was to work on a new, untitled
project, thought to based on the dramatisation of the documentary, "Hands on a
Hard Body: The Documentary."
No cause of death was released, but
a full statement is expected later on Tuesday.
