Ocean’s Eleven director Steven Soderbergh will be directing two films about Latin American revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara. Benicio Del Toro will play Guevara and has been working on the movies since they made Traffic together in 2000. Other stars who are currently in talks for prominent roles are Javier Bardem, Franka Potente and Benjamin Bratt. The films will pick up after the formative Guevara years which were captured in Walter Salles’ film The Motorcycle Diaries.

The Argentine will begin as Guevara and a band of Cuban exiles, led by Fidel Castro, reach the Cuban shore from Mexico in 1956. Guerilla will start with Guevara’s trip to New York City where he spoke at the UN in 1964 until he disappears into the jungles of South America. The movies will be shot back-to-back beginning next May in Mexico and South America.
