Reviews for this summer's next blockbuster FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER have started to trickle through, on the eve of the movie's international release.
Variety call the Tim Story directed flick: "To some extent, the noncommital perfs, lazy dialogue and retro-cheesy visual effects could be chalked up to the pic's refusal to take itself too seriously; one would be hard-pressed to recall the last time the apocalypse was treated this breezily onscreen. But at a certain point, even the most popcorn-hungry moviegoers may find themselves craving something in the way of real dramatic stakes." The trade adds that the effects work "overall is a mixed bag, lacking the polish and seamless integration most auds have come to expect from superhero extravaganzas."
Movie mag Empire have the film three stars (out of five): "Bigger, better and more polished than the first, with a quite satisfactory ratio of action set-pieces and a lot of juvenile japery squarely aimed at its PG and fanboy audience." The review read.
Rival magazine Total Film agreed, also giving it three stars and a fairly positive review:
"Just when yo u thought it couldn't get any worse, it gets a whole lot better. Fantastic 2 may not hold a candle to Marvel's crown jewels, but by dialling down the camp it at least makes amends for its dreary predecessor."
FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER is in cinemas from tomorrow (June 15). Look out for our review over the weekend.
