I only recently caught the TV show 'Welcome Back, Kotter' when I reviewed the recent DVD release, but for a thrity-year-old show, I was pretty impressed. As is Hollywood it seems after plans to remake it for today's big-screen audiences are underway. The show, which kick started the career of John Travolta, was aired in the mid-seventies and revolved around a teacher who is posted at his old rough, inner city Brooklyn high school.

The new movie is said to have rapper Ice Cube lined up for the lead role as Gabe Kotter. Cube will also produce the film for Dimension Films. "There was no bigger fan of the original show than me, and I'm very excited to be able to put a new twist on it," the rapper is quoted in saying. Gabe Kaplan played the role in TV series.

Tom Bradym who penned the Roy Scheider movie THE HOT CHICK has been hired to write the screenplay.
