Robert Altman to receive honorary Oscar

Director Robert Altman is tp receive an honourary Oscar from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences at this year's prestigious ceremony.

Altman, helmer for films like GOSFORD PARK, THE PLAYER, NASHVILLE and SHORT CUTS has been nominated in the past for an Academy Award, but has never won.

"The board was taken with Altman's innovation, his redefinition of genres, his invention of new ways of using the film medium and his reinvigoration of old ones," said Academy President Sid Ganis on the official website. "He is a master film maker and well deserves this honor."

Altman's Honourary Oscar will be presented, along with other Academy Awards, on Sunday, March 5, at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
