Many
scripts are being dusted now that 'Brokeback Mountain" is a bona fide critical
and financial hit. Such is the case for "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry",
stuck in turnaround since 1990, now being handed over to Adam Sandler and Kevin
James as stars.
The
story follows firefighter Chuck and Larry who devise a plan to get hitched as
a gay couple so they can cash in on domestic partners benefits. Many stars and
versions have paraded on the project over the years. Wil Smith, James Gandolfini,
Vince Vaughn ad Owen Wilson have all considered signing in, while Jon Favreau,
Babaloo Mandell and Gary Ross are among writers who put out drafts..
The
film, now under Happy Madison and Tom Shadyac's Shady Acres guidance, will finally
be handled by "Wedding Crashers" director David Dobkins, working on
a latest draft by "Sideways" Oscar -winning scribes Alexander Payne
and James Taylor. Universal will foot the bill, and rake in the profits
