It's
been a rough year for Aaron Sorkin's landmark TV series "The West Wing",
with the passing of beloved co-star John Spencer, a huge ratings blunder and the
announced demise of the series. Fans will get one wish granted though, albeit
a final one.
Variety
put an end to months of rumors and speculations when announcing original cast
member Rob Lowe will return to his role of Sam Seaborn, appearing in the series'
final two episodes. Lowe had left during the fourth season, amidst reports of
being unhappy with the way his character was handled, and a network refusal to
up his salary. Sorkin regular Joshua Malina was written in as his replacement.
Sam
won't be the only familiar face revisiting the White House before President Bartlett
signs off. Frequent guest stars Gary Cole, Annabeth Gish, Mary Louise Parker and
Tim Matheson will also pop in for a few of the last outings.
