Karen Gillan’s Directorial Debut ‘The Party’s Just Beginning’ Set For December Debut

We are just hearing that the directorial debut of Karen Gillan is heading for cinemas in the first week of December before heading to digital shortly afterward. The film is titled The Party’s Just Beginning and stars Gillan alongside Lee Pace (The Hobbit series), Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game) and Paul Higgins (Victoria and Abdul).

If you’ve not heard of the movie, here’s a brief rundown.

In the bleak Scottish winter, witty and sarcastic Liusaidh (Karen Gillan) is spiralling into a reckless, drunken, mid-twenties crisis. Filling her days and nights with casual joyless sex, junk food and a belief in ‘the power of positive drinking’ she’s plagued by visions of her best friend Alistair (Matthew Beard) throwing himself from a bridge. With bittersweet memories of the time spent with her friend, Liusaidh struggles to connect with anyone until a chance encounter with a stranger from out of town (Lee Pace).

Tackling a range of mental health and gender issues with a jet-black streak of Scottish humour, Karen Gillan crafts a bold, challenging and finely observed comedy-drama in this must-see debut work.
